Our Philosophy

I
t is our belief that skating is a microcosm of life.  We teach because we love our
sport, our skaters and working together.  We want each skater that comes under
our guidance to leave us as a better person, not just a better skater.  We want them
to feel good about themselves.  We want them to respect themselves and others.
We want them to recognize that which is good and have an appreciation for it.  We
hope they will grow  to love their sport with the same passion that we share for it.
We believe that they will learn valuable lessons that will help them successfully
meet the challenges they will face in life.

The purpose of the Plainfield Skating Club is to promote the sport of Roller Skating,
train athletes, and coach artistic figure skaters at a competitive level.  We hope to
instill in young skaters the value of good sportsmanship and good work ethic which
in turn will build good self-esteem.  We will delver these life lessons with great
pleasure, honesty, integrity and respect in an environment that is safe, supportive
and fun.

· Club meeting and practice is mandatory

· Private lessons normally run 30 minutes but may vary depending on the needs of
the skater.  The fees for coaching sessions are $15 for every 30 minutes which
varies linearly for different skating lesson time frames.

Club Practice

·
Practice time for all club skaters is normally four days a week.

· Proper attire shall be worn to practice which is skirted skating practice dresses
and tights or fitted practice pants only if the rink is cold for girls and skating pants
or sweats with a t-shirt or body suit for boys.  Hair will be pulled back and away
from the face.

· Skaters should arrive a minimum of 20 minutes prior to any lesson and should be
warmed up before the lesson starts.

· Private lessons always have the right of way.  Be aware of who is in lesson and
avoid skating though or in their training space.

Competitions

· Competitions fall into fours categories:  Invitational meet, Regional Championship,
National Championship, and World Championship.

· In order to participate in any competition a skater must be a member of USA Roller
Sports (USARS).  Each skater must purchase an amateur card which is an annual
due every September 1st.

· The coaching staff will determine which meets our club will participate each year.

· Event fees vary for each competition

· Skaters must be completely ready to skate 1 hour prior to the scheduled start
time of your event.

Code of Conduct

· We are inclusive of all club member realizing that we accomplish more as a team
than as individuals.

· We are positive in our approach to lessons and competition

· We are honest , respectful, and accept responsibility for our own actions.

· We are gracious in winning and losing, offering a handshake and congratulations.

· We have integrity and never violate the confidence that someone has placed in us
by gossiping and spreading rumors.

· We are helpful by assisting newer skaters if asked to do so by the coaching staff

· WE are considerate of other peoples feelings by saying something nice or nothing
at all.

· We are supportive and cheer for our teammates at as many of their events as
possible.
